Mark Cummins FCCA
A determination to raise the profile of Russell New’s activity in the charity and education sector was the driving force behind Mark Cummins’ decision to join us in 2003. As the firm’s Charity and Education Partner, Mark has continued to develop our already thriving presence in this sector. He particularly enjoys the passion and enthusiasm of the people who work in the sector.
Mark is a well known writer and speaker on matters of financial governance. He feels that the team work ethos of Russell New enables our firm to offer a broad range of services to charity clients with the benefit of the commercial edge which is often forgotten by many other advisers.
His approach is based on understanding our clients and their particular needs which enables us to work with them in achieving their strategic goals.
Aside from heading up our team working in the sector, Mark provides charity training and general governance reviews for many of our charity and education clients.
Mark is a keen marathon runner and over the years has raised in excess of £10,000 for charities.

Charlie Owen ACA CTA
Charlie advises clients in the SME sector on all aspects of tax planning and compliance in relation to their business interests as well as their personal affairs.
With the fast pace of change to tax legislation in recent years, Charlie is keen that clients are kept up to date in those areas which affect them while also taking advantage of any opportunities that might result.
Key to Charlie’s approach is the aim of ensuring clients minimise their tax exposure where possible, while not losing sight of their wider commercial objectives.
Jonathan Aikens ACA ACCA
Jonathan joined Russell New in 2012 with a passion for the not for profit sector leading him to specialise in charity finance.
Jonathan has a sound understanding of sector needs as a result of his broad ranging experience. He has worked closely with a wide array of charities, from start-ups to well established organisations turning over in excess of £45m.
Having previously worked for one of the big banks Jonathan has a strong commercial background. This commercial edge is highly beneficial in a sector where charities are required to operate as viable businesses to secure their financial future particularly in times of economic uncertainty when competition for funding is fierce.
Whether you require audit/independent examination and accountancy services, governance advice, trustee training, recommendations on how to improve systems and controls or advice on any other charity matter, Jonathan will be able to help.
