Chris Checkley FCCA

Chris joined Russell New in 1998 and quickly made his mark felt within the firm's audit department, where colleagues and partners came to rely on his imaginative and efficient attention to any task asked of him.

Chris has undertaken a wide range of demanding assignments over the years including assisting clients with stock market listings (AIM), forecasting and corporate restructuring.

In common with all the partners at Russell New, Chris is keen on efficient business and financial management, keeping tax bills and the cost of financial compliance to an absolute minimum. It is to Chris that we all look for a practical solution to a problem.

Sylvia Spencer

Sylvia has been with the firm since 1980, initially working in and then managing the Tax and Company Secretarial departments. She has now been a partner for many years.

Sylvia is a trusted adviser and confidante to many; her extensive experience of employment and payroll matters and general commercial strategy, combined with a natural tendency toward pragmatism can be useful in life's more challenging moments.

Sylvia promotes the ethos that every deal is a big deal to a client, from decisions to change bankers or stockbrokers, right through to decisions to sell multi million pound businesses. She has a fierce dislike of jargon and complex technical language and tries hard not to inflict it unnecessarily! A firm belief that commercial principles should be borne in mind as part of good charity governance makes her a useful sounding board for many of our charity clients.

Vince McLoughlin CTA

Very soon after joining Russell New in 1995, Vince became the one we all relied on to give thoughtful guidance on complex corporate tax matters. His experience includes sales and merger tax planning and due diligence, share schemes, company restructuring and many aspects of VAT planning.

Vince is the natural first point of contact for many of the firm's clients and delivers sound advice and guidance in a calm and measured fashion which instantly gains respect.

And of course, Vince's predictions at his annual budget presentation are the stuff of legend! Come along and be amazed.........

Mark Cummins FCCA

A determination to raise the profile of Russell New's activity in the charity and independent schools sector was the driving force behind Mark Cummins' decision to join us in 2003. Mark has continued to develop our already thriving presence in this sector. He particularly enjoys the passion and enthusiasm of not for profit organisations.

Mark is a well known writer and speaker on matters of financial governance. He feels that the team work ethos of Russell New enables our firm to offer a broad range of services to charity clients with the benefit of the commercial edge which is derived from our philosophy of ensuring that we do not have staff or partners (apart from Mark!) dedicated only to work within the sector.

Alex Thomson CTA

Alex has been associated with the firm in its various guises for many years and during that time has covered the whole range of direct and indirect taxes. He now specialises in personal and trust taxation and maintains close relationships with many clients who seek his advice on every aspect of their financial affairs.

Alex combines accuracy with a desire for minimising the cost of compliance, an aim shared by all at Russell New. He enjoys the challenge posed by complex family taxation involving trusts and personal tax returns.
